Serious gardening.

Damien told me on the phone that there was a big tractor in the backyard. Yep, I found the tiller man and hired him to come "till". Since then I have tapped the posts in with the sledge hammer. You should see me wrangling with the chicken-wire fencing. How to unwind the roll without it wrapping me up in it...now that is the challenge, but I prevailed. The garden is where the playground used to be so I am finding old toys in the dirt which is quite dear. I have made those mounded rows and have put in so far: broccoli, collards, brussel sprouts, cabbage, onions, spinach and lettuce. Other vegetables have to wait till it's a bit warmer. I'm a real Eastern Shore woman now...sore chapped hands and all.

This is wonderful! I can't wait to have a garden. This year, however, my family has joined a Community Supported Agriculture farm. You pay a subscription fee and then you receive a large basket of fresh produce once a week of whatever is in season. I had read an article about the growing popularity of these and I was super pleased when I found one near us!

I just recently got mine planted -- things for making salsa like roma tomatoes, bell peppers, onion, jalapenos, serrannos, and various herbs. Took forever! But everything looks great. I plant in raised beds since I can't really till up a section of my backyard. Now that my plants need water and sunlight, it's been cloudy for a week, and I've had to use the sprinkler to keep everything from drying up!

Keep us posted on your veggies!

Farmer Kate??!! I AM impressed! I got my blackberries trimmed up and I saw 3 asparagus today. (Can't say I planted any of these-I have come to the Land of Caanan where I just reap the fruits of the land:-)

Not only do I love the writing, I love the picture you've chosen to go with it:)
I need to walk over and have a peek at this, because I know you Kate. You don't do anything half-hearted and I'm sure this is worthy of a picture! Gosh, I'd like a bit of your energy....
